Imagine for a moment that you and your family go out to a movie one night and when you come home, your house has burned to the ground. I know, it would be a terrible loss. You would all shed a lot of tears. It would be horrible. But assuming you had your house properly insured, have you ever considered how free you would be the next morning?
The insurance will pay off the mortgage and give you some cash in hand. You don’t have to clean out the garage today as you had planned to do. You don’t have to worry about ironing the clothes that had backed up on you. The list of repairs you had to do around the house burned up with the house. We rarely consider what a burden our stuff can become, how complicated our possessions make our lives.
And one of the company said unto him, Master, speak to my brother, that he divide the inheritance with me. And he said unto him, Man, who made me a judge or a divider over you? And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.
