The father, the son, and the holy spirit being one person, how does one understand that Jesus Christ being God was actually talking to Himself? How does one come to grasp that? Jesus the Christ Is God... |

I don't think any church holds that Father Son and Spirit are one person. Rather they believe they are three persons in one "Godhead." This language is not found in scripture. There, God presents himself as "Family," in terms of Father and Son. This is discussed in much more depth in the book, "The Lonely God," Available from CEM or Amazon. |

Hello Mr. Dart, my queston is Jesus states in Matthew 22 Verse 30 "For when the dead rise, they won't be married. They will be like the angels in heaven" For some with an ex-wife this might be a relief. Given our 50% divorce rate God must have something better. Your thoughts on this matter are greatly appreciated. Thank you and God Bless. |

There isn't much to say about this beyond Jesus' words. In marriage, a man and a woman become one flesh. When we are no longer flesh, I would think that relationship would become meaningless. We'll know soon enough. |

Hello, I am trying to find out if and where there are scriptures that speak about a persons right to self defense and to defend loved ones. I know in my heart that God does not forbid such actions, but I am not familliar enough with the scriptures yet to know where to turn to convince a friend who is stuck on the "turn the other cheek" statement made by Jesus. This comes from Isaiah 14:12 "How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!" From the context, this is said to be Satan. But the Hebrew word translated "Lucifer" is Heylel.

Unclean meats althought they are listed in Leviticus 23, when Paul was on the roof praying, Acts 10:15, and the Lord let down the sheet with all manner of meats, did this make the law of unclean meats null and void? As I read in Matt 15:11 and Romans 14:14it seems like all manner of meat is allowed to be eaten. Please clarify. Thank You |

That can be difficult. Here is one thing to remember. You don't have to agree with everything a church teaches in order to join in worship. There are too many nitpickers out there who have to get everything just right. Don't be one of them. Probably the largest group, and the one most likely to be close to you is the Seventh Day Adventist Church (I am not personally of that persuasion, but they are good people). I thank you so much for answering my previous question so quickly. Many church leaders don't have that type of personal commitment to followers of the word. I have another question regarding the name of "God" and the Son. It had been revealed to me before that the true name of "the LORD" is YHWH, or Yahweh and that the true name of the son is Yoshua. I know that you've also acknowledged this. Why then is it acceptable to teach or preach using terms like GOD, the LORD, or Jesus? I understand that some believe the name is too sacred, but many in the Bible called upon the name of Yahweh ,and Jesus isn't even the English translation of Yoshua. Would it be more accurate and Biblically correct to preach using the Hebrew names and teach others to do likewise? |

Thanks for the question, it is a frequently asked. The true name of the LORD of the Old Testament is, transliterated from the Hebrew, YHWH. (Hebrew includes no vowels.) This is variously rendered Yahweh or Yehovah, depending on vowel points and English alphabet conventions. In answer to your last question, if it were more "biblically correct" to use the Hebrew names, Paul would have done so in his Epistles, and so would Mark, Luke, and John, in their works. There may have been a Hebrew Matthew, but it is lost to us. Instead of Yahweh, Paul, writing in Greek renders the word, Kurios, Lord. That being the case, and Hebrew names having meaning rather than meaningless phonetic sounds, I see nothing wrong with following the meaning, and rendering God's name appropriately in whatever language we are using. If Paul could do it, so can we. |

Regarding the controversy about the three days and three nights: You have stated that you believe that the sabbath referenced here is a high-day, the first day of Passover. But in Matthew 26:17, it is written that "On the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the disciples came to Jesus and asked 'Where do you want us to make preparations for you to eat the Passover?'" It would seem that from this verse, the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread had already taken place, so how could that have been the Sabbath referenced in regards to the death and resurrection? I respect your program and ministry and am a strong believer in the Word. I just want to be clear about the truth of this matter. |

We are at a disadvantage in reading the New Testament for two reasons. One, the NT was written in Greek and copied. Two, there are customs that the first readers understood well enough, but that we don't quickly grasp. Jewish custom called for removal of leaven from the house at the end of the 13th. This made the 14th a de facto day of unleavened bread even though the law didn't call for it until the 15th. The disciples often write in terms of common usage which confuse us until we look a little deeper. Got a new book coming this summer which goes much deeper into the subject. Watch for it. Working title is "The Thread, God's Appointments with history. Early drafts of various chapters can be read at this link. |

It is possible, but there are no known manuscripts of a Hebrew Matthew older than the 11th century. There is a tradition that Matthew wrote a Hebrew Gospel, but there is no reason to think the late manuscript is that Gospel. It is plain that the New Testament books we have were all originally written in Greek. |

As far as I can see, there are two issues at risk in gambling. One is the 10th commandment, "Thou shalt not covet." The other is in risking money that would be better spent on other things, like clothes for your children. Some feel that modest amounts of money spent for entertainment in the playing of games does not violate these principles. No one but the person playing the game knows for sure. |

The Law prohibits the eating of blood, but that appears to have aimed at the ingesting of blood orally, probably as a part of a covenant. In early semitic cultures, a covenant might have been sealed by drinking another person's blood (blood brotherhood). In time, the sharing of the blood of a sacrificed animal substituted for human blood. Even later, a shared meal of the flesh of the sacrificed animal sufficed. (See the International Standard Bible Encyclopedia, article "Covenant.") There is nothing that would prohibit a blood transfusion as part of a medical procedure. |

I understand your concern. Who could possibly ever be "worthy" of the body and blood of the Lord. It is well to know that "unworthily" is an adverb applying to the manner of eating and drinking, not an adjective applying to the person taking the bread and wine. As to the rest of your question, that will be part of the content of my next book. Meanwhile, it is covered in the series of radio programs, available in album form, "Christian Holidays." |

Historical value? Perhaps. They certainly are not "lost books of the Bible." They are what some call the Apocrypha or the psuedepigripha. They are of no greater value than many other historical books of the time. Those books that were never accepted into the canon of the Bible are of value only in telling us what some Christians in some places may have believed and practiced. They are surely not authoritative. |

I can't think of any reason why an autopsy should not be done if one is needed. In some cases it is a legal requirement, but I can easily see your point. I was baptised in a non sabbath believing church at age 12. Their doctrine was heavly steeped in Acts 2-38. That was more years ago than I like to admit and I sure haven't lived a life very pleasing to God. My question is since I have been enlightened by you and other sources over the years, is re-baptisim #1 necessary #2would re-baptism be a slap in the face of Jesus by not trusting in Gods grace. #3 How do I know who is a God ordained minister to perfom this. |
| |

When Paul encountered a group of disciples at Ephesus, he asked them if they had received the Holy Spirit since they were baptized. It turned out that they knew nothing about the Holy Spirit, having known only John's baptism. Paul baptized these people again and laid hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit. Therefore, the question you have to answer is whether you have received the Holy Spirit since you were baptized. In any case, it is no slap in the face of Jesus to be baptized again in his name because you feel you had not really repented at your earlier baptism. As to a "God ordainded minister" to baptize you, the important thing is not who baptizes you, but whether you in your heart have repented of your sins, and accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. If these two things are in place, everything else fades into the background. Your trust must be in Christ, not the minister who puts you under the water and, hopefully, brings you up again. |

Will there be animal sacifices in the Kingdom? |
| |
Posted By: Richard

The reason this question arises is because of a short passage at the end of Zechariah 14. The chapter is plainly about the return of the Messiah as King and the establishment of his rule on the earth -- even to the extent of requiring the Egyptians to keep the Feast of Tabernacles. The verses at the end (vv. 20-21) are often taken to suggest animal sacrifice. However, the passage could also be taken to mean that holiness is no longer confined to the temple area, but that the whole place is holy. "Sacrifice" may refer more to the killing and preparation of food than to the former rites of the priesthood. But please put special empasis on the word "may." Interpretation of prophecy is often problematic.

We recently had some mormons show up at my house and it was cold outside, so I invited them in. It is helpful when discussing a question such as yours to first define terms. The word "cult" has taken on many different meanings in recent decades. To some it means "a dangerous religious group where the leader might convince people to kill themselves," such as the Jonestown situation in 1978 where over 900 people died in a mass suicide. To others it means "any group that claims to be Christian but doesn't believe all the same doctrines as the group I belong to." You can read an overview of the various ways the word can be used in the article "Cult, Occult, New Age--What's the Difference?" on my Field Guide to the Wild World of Religion website.
I believe what you are probably really wanting to know about the Mormons is whether or not their doctrines are compatible with the Bible. Is their religion based solidly on the Old and New Testaments, with perhaps just a few idiosyncratic beliefs tacked on, or is it based on doctrines that are totally contrary to the revelation we find in the Bible? Mormon missionaries will emphasize to new people the aspects of their faith that line up with the Bible. But if you continued studying with them, they would eventually introduce you to the many other documents that form the basis of the belief system of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
And within those documents are many strange and fanciful ideas that are totally contrary to the teachings found in the Bible. In fact, although those missionaries will not tell you about the real Mormon view of the relative value of the Bible compared to Mormon writings, here is a quote from one of their early leaders: "The Book of Mormon claims to be a divinely inspired record.... If false, it is one of the most cunning, wicked, bold, deep-laid impositions ever palmed upon the world, calculated to deceive and ruin millions ...if true, no one can possibly be saved and reject it: if false, no one can possibly be saved and receive it...." And more recently, in 1978, their "Apostle" Ezra Taft Benson had this to say: "There will be more people saved in the kingdom of God--ten thousand times over--because of the Book of Mormon than there will be because of the Bible." You can read many more quotes like these, along with a detailed overview of the history and teachings of the LDS Church in the profile of Mormonism on the Field Guide website.

I read an interesting book on the idea of codes in the text of the Old Testament, and the more you learn about it, the less promising the idea becomes. For one thing, everything depends on which text you are using. The truth in the Bible doesn't depend on that, but a technical detail on the codes does. Change one letter and the code no longer fits.
It has been rather a long time since I read the book, but I was completely convinced there is nothing hidden in the text of the Bible. The truth is right there for us to see and obey. |

God's call, his invitation, is not merely to ministry. It is a call to him. And within that broader call, each of us is called to use his unique talents and gifts in service to God's people. Ephesians 4 and 1 Corinthians 12 make this fairly clear. |

Now that is an interesting question. The obvious answer is that we can't know for sure, but we do have clues. In all their narratives, they never suggest that they addressed him by his name. They gave us his name (in Greek) when they were talking about him, but when they addressed him, it was Lord or Master.
And when Jesus tells his disiples how to pray, he does not suggest addressing the Father by his name, but by his relationship: Father.
Jesus' name in Greek transliterates as Iesous. The J is pronounced as I or Y in nearly every language except English.
Lord in the Greek is Kurios. Master is Didaskolos, "Teacher." The people also addressed Jesus as Rhabbi, Rabbi, and I amused in the face of Jesus stern warnings not to call men Rabbi, that some Christian teachers do precisely that. Jesus never rebuked anyone who called Him, "Rabbi," but there is this caution:
(Matthew 23:8 KJV) But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren.

Hi Ron, Listen to you every Sunday morning just before getting up for church and find your messages very inspiring. Would enjoy hearing your commentary on the usage of the verb tense between Matt 16:19 in the NKJV "whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven etc." and the NASU 16:19 which states, "whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven". Also, in Matt 16:18 it appears that the rock which Jesus will build His Church on is Peter rather than Jesus Himself. Would truly enjoy hearing you thoughts on this also. Thanks Ron and keep up the good work. God Bless. David Lendway |

(Matthew 16:18-19 NIV) And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. {19} I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven."
This is a contentious passage because of Roman Catholic insistence on the Primacy of Peter and apostolic succession. The protest approach is to fiddle with the translation, as you have noted. But in reality, the standard translations are as good as it gets here. It is a plain statement that whatever the apostles bound on earth would be backed up in heaven.
But there is a problem here. In the first place, there is not a hint elsewhere in the New Testament that the church was built on Peter. It has been correctly noted that the Greek word for Peter is masculine, while the word for "Rock" is feminine. This is not the way the Greek should be used to designate Peter as the rock on which the church was built. Several explanations have been offered, but the bottom line is that Jesus was not building his church on Peter. If he had, it would have been evident all through the New Testament and it is not.
What is happening in the passage above is the transfer of judicial authority for the church from the Sanhedrin to the Apostles. There would be many doubtful issues that would face the church in years to come (See Acts 15 for an example) and they did not need to be bound by the decisions of the Pharisees, which had previously been the case. (See Matthew 23:1 ff.)
The authority in the Old Testament had rested with priests and judges (See Deuteronomy 17:8 ff.) Now it would rest with the leadership of the church. |

I was wondering if you have any bible study groups near us here in the Kansas City area. My son, who lives in Richardson, Tx. has attended two meetings of a group close by and likes it. He says it sounds just like me (I send his family articles as I write them so they can be knowledgeable and study the Bible, too. I am critical that we all keep on track. We keep the Sabbath and Holy days, and compute our own holy year, beginning with the spring equinox and first new moon, thereafter. |

Actually, CEM does not "have" churches or groups, as we are a service ministry. However, there are groups that support our ministry in many cities around the country. One of the more active of these groups is in Kansas City. For contact information, call our office at our toll free number, 1-888-Bible44, 1-888-242-5344. |

If when Christ returns and ultimately brings mortal history to a close as we know it and sin is done away with, we will no longer have the struggles with which we now contend. If we will then be ushered into perfection; why, oh why must we go through this horrible bootcamp. Why must we learn patience if we won't need it. Why must we be surrounded by the unloveable to learn to love if we are to be made perfect lovers then? Why must we struggle to be mature if, then, we will be made perfect? Thank you kindly: Jerry Anderson |

You ask a very big question, Jerry. It is, I think based on a misconception about what happens when we are raised into a new life. Considering the way life is, I have to conclude that what we are going through now will become a part of what we are then. We aren't just made perfect lovers. We learn that through living. As for this terrible boot camp, that was a choice made for us by Adam and Eve. Here is a link to an article that might open this subject up a little for you. |

This question is for Mr. Dart. I noticed on the Speaking Schedule for the Feast that there will be an offering taken up on the first Holy Day. Most "Churches of God" take an offering on each of the seven Holy Days, even though that is not what Duet. 16:16 instructs us to do. Does this mean that you, (CEM) only take an offering three times a year as the Bible instructs? If this is the case, would you please give a sermon on this subject? We so value your insight. Thank you for all you do.

Thanks for the question Katharine. Yes, we only formally take an offering three times a year on the holydays. We accept offerings as people feel moved to give them. It shouldn't require a full sermon to explain. Deuteronomy 16:16,17 should suffice. |

WHERE IN THE BIBLE DOES IT SAY....IF HE BRINGS YOU TO IT, HE WILL SEE YOU THROUGH IT.... |

It doesn't say quite that. I think the passage you are looking for is this one: "No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it." (1 Corinthians 10:13 NIV) So, you can't say, "The Devil made me do it." You always have a choice.

I remember when you talked about the death penalty. You believe that it is biblical. I myself am not sure if it is biblical. |

At the time of Christ's death, the veil was torn in half. What does that signify? I heard that the old law was done away with. Please clear this up for me. |

It is not clear why anyone should connect the rending of the veil to the abolition of the law. What it signifies is that we now have access to the Father.
"This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;"(Hebrews 10:16-20 KJV)
The only difference relative to the law is where it is, not whether. It is written in our hearts, not merely on tables of stone. It is internal, not external.

Neither, but I have been accused of being less a Democrat than a Republican. The Democrats in recent years have made it a little easier to be "not a Democrat. But a person in my position needs to stay above party politics. I am not a Republican, a Democrat, a Libertarian, a liberal, a conservative, or even a moderate. What you see and hear is what you get.
